Project's Overview
Car Selling Platform is a full-stack MERN web application designed for online car browsing, car inventory management, cart management, Cash on Delivery checkout, order tracking, user profile management, and admin-side platform control. The project includes a customer-facing storefront where users can browse cars, search and filter inventory, view car details, add cars to cart, place COD orders, cancel pending orders, and manage their account information.
The system also includes a dedicated Admin Panel where administrators can manage dashboard statistics, cars, brands, users, and orders. Admin can create, update, delete, and search car records, manage car brands, update order status, mark orders as paid or delivered, cancel orders, create users, reset passwords, toggle admin roles, and manage platform data through protected admin routes.

Step 1: Install backend dependencies

Open a new terminal:

The environment variables include backend port, MongoDB URI, JWT secret, client URL, admin email, and admin password used by the seeder.
Step 4: Start MongoDB
Make sure MongoDB is running locally, or replace MONGO_URI with a MongoDB Atlas connection string.
Step 5: Seed the database
cd server
npm run seed
Or:
node src/seeder/seeder.js
The seeder clears existing data and inserts sample users, brands, cars, and orders.
Step 6: Start backend
Open Terminal 1:
cd server
npm run dev
Backend API runs at:
http://localhost:5000
Step 7: Start frontend
Open Terminal 2:
cd client
npm run dev
Frontend app runs at:
http://localhost:5173
The project uses separate backend and frontend servers during development.
