Project's Overview
Sports Equipment E-Commerce Platform is a full-stack MERN web application designed for online sports equipment shopping. Customers can browse sports products, search gear, view category-wise products, open product detail pages, add products to cart, update quantities, checkout using Cash on Delivery, track orders, and manage their profile. The system uses a client-side cart stored in localStorage and saves confirmed orders as booking documents in MongoDB.
The project includes a dedicated Admin Panel where admins can manage dashboard statistics, categories, products, orders, and users. Admin can create, update, delete, and search categories and products, update order status, delete orders, view order details, manage users, edit user roles, and prevent self-deletion for admin safety.

Step 1: Create backend environment file
Create backend/.env:

Step 2: Start MongoDB

Open a separate terminal:

The seed command creates the admin account, demo users, 5 categories, 24 products, and 8 sample orders.
Step 5: Start frontend

The project runs backend on port 5000 and frontend on port 5173.

Running npm run seed inserts:
